Welcome to Truckee

An idyllic mountain town along the Truckee River with a rich history

Truckee is a quaint mountain community along the Truckee River and the most populated town in the North Lake Tahoe region of California. Near Donner Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this friendly town is 6,000 feet in altitude and surrounded by forests, lakes, and rivers, making it ideal for a lifestyle out in nature. In 1849, the area became known as a gold rush boomtown and later a railroad town once the Transcontinental Railroad was built. It is also where the famous Donner Party settlers met their fate attempting to settle in the west.

Residents have easy access to Lake Tahoe (14-miles), Reno (31-miles), and Sacramento (100-miles) with the I-80 Freeway bordering the town. You will see a variety of home styles with the most popular ranging from American Craftsman, rustic log cabin, Alpine chalets, and mountain modern. Properties with larger acreage equate to privacy and solitude.

Locals look forward to several festivals with the most notable Made In Tahoe (celebrating everything locally), Truckee Day, Tahoe City Food & Wine Classic, and the Truckee Reggae Fest. From the end of June to the beginning of August, residents take part in the fun-filled Truckee Thursdays by listening to great music, sampling tasty food, and connecting with other community members.
